Man, I keep thinking about that movie title… everything, everywhere, all at once and it feels a little like my life right now. Here’s the thing, and I’m not complaining, but there’s just a lot going on. From work growing and thriving to decisions that need to be made, to plans that need to be implemented and all the rest. It’s a blessing to be where I am today. It’s an exciting and exhilarating time as well as an exhausting one and there seems to be no end in sight.
Which is why, after a weekend of travel, impacted by flight delays on the way home…I took a nap this afternoon. After a whirlwind travel weekend with the family, I was clearly physically and mentally drained when I dragged my body into the house.
So I followed the lead of my brilliant wife. At four in the afternoon, she got in the bed, told the kids not to bother her, ordered some food and has been hibernating ever since. Then she offered me this gem: take at least an hour, maybe two to yourself as well before you jump back into doing all the things to get ready for the week. I know you’re tired, listen to your body.
Of course my wife had the right answer. #believeblackwomen
I almost didn’t listen. But thank God I did.
And now, after a meal, some tea, telling the kids to go upstairs and not bother either of us for the next hour, here I am waking up from a surprisingly restful nap.
I’m not saying I’m ready to conquer the world (or even my laundry list of to dos which literally includes laundry). But I am better prepared to do my next right thing, with a little juice in the tank to help me finish the day.
I’ll take the win.
